On January 31, 2019, Eli Washtock, an amateur sleuth looking into Michelle O’Connell’s death, was murdered in his condo.

A neighbor says that Washtock feared for his life. Prior to his murder, he told people he had a run-in with St Johns County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Banks. He also appeared to indicate he knew someone was after him.
